The 100th anniversary of the 1923 Chinese Exclusion Act is a rare opportunity to honour those courageous souls who survived this dark period in Canadian history. We are dedicating this project to our ancestors on whose shoulders we stand tall today. Their story is the foundation of the Chinese-Canadian experience and the Chinese Canadian story.

We wish this commemoration to be a true “community exhibition” – composed of historic documents that come from the Chinese Canadian community across Canada.

That’s why we are inviting families to share with us their C.I. certificates. Review our C.I. Certificates page to see the full list of the types of documents we are seeking.

You keep the original C.I. certificate.  We only need to scan your document.

If you do not have access to a professional-quality scanner that can digitize to the specifications noted below, then contact us.  We can help arrange to get your document scanned locally.

        • 900 dpi (front and back of the certificate)
        • Colour
        • Saved as a TIFF file
        • Send via WeTransfer (email us for easy-to-follow instructions)
